Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• To manage all operations of the asbestos laboratory and store room at the Harlow office, including review & participation in all relevant QC schemes
• Complete bulk analysis and report to line manager on resourcing the workload
• Provide support to Area Manager & Technical Manager as required
• Work effectively with Laboratory Technician ensuring maximum efficient utilisation of time
• Champion improvements to laboratory activities
• Report to Area Manager & Report Production on laboratory workload and arrange resources to ensure KPI’s are met
• Manage & complete the laboratories participation in AIMS & RICE schemes, report to Technical Manager on concerns or anomalies
• Schedule & complete monthly reassurance air tests for the laboratory & store room
• Schedule & complete monthly bulk and fibre count re-checks
• Schedule & arrange external servicing of microscopes, dust cabinets, H-Type vacuums, anemometers, full face masks
• Maintain records for all laboratory procedures & equipment in line with asbestos technical procedures
• Work with Equipment Co-ordinator & Area Manager to assist with equipment maintenance
• Manage consumables & pre-printed paperwork, ensuring suitable levels of stock
• Maintain laboratory archive of bulk samples & fibre count slides
• Monitor & arrange collection of lab waste, ensuring consignment notes are received and appropriately archived
• Regular & structured review of Risk Assessments & laboratory forms & procedures
• Provide quotations for bulk analysis only contracts, in line with DOA and as appropriate to capacity
• Complete technical audits of Laboratory Technician

SHOWING YOUR ATTRIBUTES

Key requirements include:

• GCSE or equivalent
• BOHS certificates P401 and P403
• Experience in the provision of asbestos bulk analysis & laboratory fibre count QC activities
• Experienced in the planning & allocation of the laboratory work load
• Understanding of QC requirements under ISO17025 & familiarity with relevant technical guidance
• Excellent understanding of H&S aspects of asbestos laboratory work
